After a long day of putting finishing touches on new items, editing photos and scribbling up enticing product descriptions, I’ve finally managed to crack open the delicious Blue Moon that’s been staring me in the face for the last few hours. With all the upcoming festivities, it’s been a rather exhausting preparation week but worth every ache and pain. The new 1930s Royal typewriter keys limited edition collection is Rue de la Marguerite steam-punk style perfection, here’s a teeny taste of what’s coming up on the online store:
Okay, that’s all you lovelies get for now. They should be up on the online storefront by tomorrow evening, so as per usual, keep your eyes, ears and paws at the ready.
on African trade beads, that is.
This morning I had the best history class since Mrs. Cowart’s 11th grade American History class. Instead of scribbling notes on the rise of monopolies and Prohibition in my college-ruled notebook, I got to sit amongst some glorious vintage world trade beads of Czech, Venetian and Dutch descent that were found and used for a variety of purposes across Africa. Whether they signified status or worked as a monetary source, these strands made me drool. A lot.
Luckily, I scored the Hebron crumb and Dutch donut strands…. Merry X-mas to me, compliments of Mr. Steve Ellis. Wheee!
we’ve been a wee bit busy…..
Fresh off our first ever festival show at La Encantada, we’ve been working our paws and opposable thumbs to the bone and it looks like it’s paying off! Despite a rainy Sunday start, the weekend show went extremely well and the chats couldn’t be more pleased.
Pardon moi, however, as I must attend to kittens trying to add their two cents by walking on the laptop here. Be back ce soir!
Yesterday I hit the jackpot. I mean JACKPOT. And it only took five pit-stops to do so….
The perpetual hunt for watch parts takes me all around this little desert town, so this was clearly a wondrous end to yet another long, traffic jam’d treasure quest.Wouldn’t you know it, but a vintage 1930’s Royal typewriter in stellar condition was waiting for me at Casa de los Niños, and five minutes later, I happily pranced out of the store with it.
The magical thing about this find – besides the fact that it was still in working condition after 80+ years – is that I’ve been looking for antique typewriter keys for months. Months. Soooo, taking a hammer, wrench, pliers and other assorted mechanical tools, I went to town. And looky what I got….
Part of me was torn about removing ’em all because it was REALLY cool to type with, that part being the 14 year old Moulin Rouge obsessed tween who wanted to doll up in Victorian clothes with Ewan McGregor and sing Bowie songs back and forth to each other to Baz Luhrmann’s direction.
Alas, I make jewelry. So they had to come off. The back ache is worth it.
These sweet pieces shall be infused into an upcoming holiday line verrrryyyyy soon. Keep your eyes, ears and paws at the ready.
